The Leaves of the Fallen Tree

It was a tall and majestic tree. It overlooked the forest, and it was said that from the top of that tree, you could see the vast expanse of the kingdom. The leaves on the tree were always green. They were not just ordinary leaves. Every leaf was broad, green, with thick veins on it, all connected to the branches and to the tree, that took water through its large roots that went deep into the crust of the earth.

The tree was called the “monument”, by the villagers who lived near the forest. Beyond the forest was the large city, with a lot of activity, factories, buildings, workshops, offices, research facilities, and every other place that makes it a large and developing city. As the population increased, the industrial development of the city, also skyrocketed. With all this happening, the population of the city was growing by leaps and bounds.

The day finally arrived when the people of the city needed new homes. The local village, near the city, was taken over by building workers and very soon, the village was annexed to the city. That was not enough. The city now crawled its way lazily into the forest area. Trees were being cut down. Smoke stacks billowed out dark clouds of smoke into the atmosphere, while large pipes expelled industrial…
